Task 1: The 4 C's and Technology in ELT
Why do you think it is important to include the 4 C’s in language learning classes?
How do you think the 4 C’s are connected to the use of technology in the language learning classroom?
As a prospective teacher, what would you do to foster the 4C’s in your language classroom? Think of factors such as activities, tasks, procedures, materials, among other aspects of teaching. Provide concrete examples.
It is fundamental to include the four C's in language learning classes, due that these are fundamental in every teaching process. This means that despite the subject, these must be included, owing to that they are aimed at the integral development of the students not academically only but as people. Communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking are essential so as to help our students to become conscious inhabitants who participate in democratic processes, are aware of social issues, and understand globalization. Basically, it is helpful for society's growth.
Concerning the importance of these skills and its connection to the use of technology in the language learning classroom, it is significant to state that technology and its "derivatives" might be similar to the real world, thus students need to how to properly behave when using these devices, for instance in a class they might be asked to search for information on Google, while doing this, scholars have to be able to think critically in order to know if the source of information they have found is reliable or not, moreover if this activity had to be done in groups they must have to effectively communicate and collaborate among the team members.
As claimed before, these skills are paramount, so they must be included in classes. In order to do so, I would request students to create a poster or a video promoting something related to a unit, such as food. The idea would be to work in groups and look up for information that helps them to develop a creative and outstanding poster.
